Mira Tudor

This is me in high school, in the 3rd year, so it must be in 1938, in Ramnicu Valcea. I had an embroidered collar made by Grandma. She made them for other pupils too, because not all the mothers could embroider and we were only allowed to wear them like that.

My grandmother did luxury embroidery and had to sweat in order to raise the six children. She earned her living with her needle, as they say. At the time when my grandfather died, my grandmother worked for a noble family in Ramnicu Valcea - the Otetelesanus, a famous aristocratic family. In those days, the seamstress or the embroiderer went to the client's house and stayed there for a few months to get the job done.
