Paul and Jeanne Abravanel

This a picture of my husband’s brother Paul Abravanel and his Swiss wife Jeanne. Paul was the vice consul of Spain in Thessaloniki and he was responsible for saving many Salonican Jews by giving them Spanish identity cards. Spain was an ally of Germany and thus Spanish citizens were to be protected and not sent to labor or concentration camps.

When I met his wife I was thrilled: a delicate thin lady with such good manners. They were a very nice couple: he was tall, handsome, with a mustache and she was thin and well behaved and always nicely dressed. It was a couple to remember. After World War II was over I went to France with my husband and we met their son, Eve. He had a huge hotel and he was very well off.
