Pavel Werner’s pre-war report card

This is a duplicate of my report card from the second grade, which I obtained after the war so they would once again accept me into school. As you can see, I was an industrious and clever student, I had - aside from singing - all 1's [A's].

I liked school, as a child I was an avid reader, for my age I read even, I would say, more difficult works. Besides this, back then I must have read completely all the pocket-novels, back then they were published as a series, someone scrounged them up for me, and there wasn't a single pocket-novel that I hadn't read. I loved to read.

By the third grade I was barred from attending school by the Germans, I attended secret classes for Jewish children. We would meet by the Pardubice synagogue and the classes were held in the rabbi's apartment.
