Sultana Yulzari with classmates and teachers from the French Girls' High School 'Santa Maria'

This is me with my classmates from the French Girls' Half-Classic High School 'Santa Maria' together with our teachers - nuns. The photo was taken in 1935 in Ruse.

The first from right to left is sister Mary. There is a view of me right above her head. The school's headmistress, sister Neli, is in the center of the picture - she was from Plovdiv. On the utmost right, down, you can see my best friend Viki Mashiah standing between the two nuns. My neighbor, the Bulgarian Nevena Miteva, with whom I was on friendly terms, is sitting on sister's Mary right hand side.

The Armenian Madlen Sholean is standing above, next to me - the second from behind from right to left. We were very good friends. I even went to visit her in Budapest, where it was marvelous. I have unforgettable memories from this place, because she took me as a guide to all the fascinating sights of the wonderful Budapest. And from the left, just next to Madlen, that’s Atina Georgieva with whom we got on well. She is no longer alive.

In 1935 I graduated from the French Girls’ High School in Ruse. Before that I had studied at the local Jewish junior high school. After finishing high school I was sent to Varna, where those days lived one of my aunts, childless. I had to stay there for two years to learn to sew, studying at the business school. At the end of 1930s I returned to Ruse.
