The picture of this trunk, which I took as part of the project "The Reconstruction of a Family Album" symbolizes the fateful journeys of (not only) our family during World War II. The suitcase, otherwise a symbol of joyful and adventurous journeys, during the time of persecution of Jews during the war became a reminder of an uncertain future, a synonym for painful expectations and the fear of the unknown. 'I'm still amazed at how it's possible that one and the same thing can at different times mean something completely different. In our family, the suitcase was a symbol of joyful expectations. But now everyone avoided it with fear that he hid before the others. Still the same suitcase, with the same broken buckle and its strap worn there where it rubbed against it...'
