Yvonne Capuano-Molho at seder at Doctor Arouch’s house

This picture was taken on Pesach of 5759.

We celebrate the festivity at Manolis Arouch’s house. From left to right are: David Asher, her wife and our cousin Rosa, my husband Richard Capuano and me.

At the head of the table, the person leading the seder is Doctor Manolis Arouch.

The Jews of Thessaloniki were good husbands and family men. Even now I hear Christians saying, ‘I would very much like a Jew as husband for my daughter.’

The importance of family was highly appreciated by the Jews of Thessaloniki. The men would become good husbands and the women good mothers.

Now, of course, things have changed, as there has been a lot more elastic attitudes, but in that period we were living all together.

I intended for my husband to be a Jew. However at the period I got married it was very difficult for someone to change religion. It was not only the parents' reaction but to convert needed a lot of time.

Of course you had to study, the women that have converted becoming Jews know everything about our religion.
